For all you re-loaders out there, have you ever looked at your ammo brass after spending hours sorting, tumbling, and figuring out the best combination of “ingredients” to make your brass nice and shiny, and thought “it still looks dull”? Well, we have a proven answer for you that has been tried, and tested to make others envious of your sparkly reloads. First, stop spending your hard earned dollars on expensive media for tumbling. Zip over to your local Pet Smart and buy some Ground Walnut Reptile Bedding. It’s about $15.00 for a 10 Quart bag. It’s the same if not better (because it’s cheaper), than the expensive media. Next, head to your favorite “sells everything” store, and buy some “Nu Finish Car Polish” (in the orange bottle). While you are there, grab some regular BB’s. Now that you have all these “ingredients”, head for the house and crank up your tumbler. Pour some of your newly and affordable Ground Walnut media in the bottom of your tumbler, then add your brass in. Cover the brass with more media. Next pour some of the BB’s in. Not a bunch, but 2-3 hands full. Next, turn your tumbler on, and while the media and brass are churning around, pour some of the Nu Finish Car Polish in. Don’t get too crazy with the polish, but estimate a decent amount that can polish the brass in the tumbler. I would say about 2-3 caps full. Scott K. on “The Reloading Room” Facebook group suggested also adding 2 caps full of mineral spirits. I will have to try that out!! Let your brass tumble for about an hour, and it will turn out remarkably shiny!!
